As you may recall we recently reinstated the Bike Squad – 30 police officers that will patrol throughout the Perth Metro area on bikes.
In addition to this officers will now be trialling tandem bikes in the Perth CBD over the next 3 months.
It is believed the tandem bikes will be an effective, efficient and environmentally friendly way of transporting offenders in build-up suburban areas to the nearest lockup.
Offenders will be placed on the rear of the bike and handcuffed to the handle bars to foil any Houdini attempts.
Helmets will be provided along with hair nets and antibacterial spray to avoid any nasty head and hair issues.
Officers involved in the tandem bike squad will receive specialist training to ensure their own safety as well as their passenger’s.
Perth CBD is a very bike friendly location however we will access the option of electric motors for the hillier suburbs.
Keep your eye out for the new bikes and let’s hope we don’t see you pedalling your way to the lockup!
A strong reminder that we check bail conditions and take them very seriously…
On 24 November 2015, a 24-year old woman was released to bail from Fremantle Magistrates Court. Bail conditions included regular drug testing while participating in a pre-sentence program as she awaited trial regarding a serious domestic violence incident.
In March 2016, the woman allegedly provided urine samples resulting in positive tests for cannabis, amphetamine and methylamphetamine.
Police attended the woman’s home in Hillman yesterday and arrested her for Breach of Bail. She will appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court today.
